Brayden Mc Carthy, grade 12 learner of Glenwood High School 2017, obtains his black belt in Karate. Brayden Mc Carthy (Gr 12 2017) started Karate as a white belt in 2011 with the International Federation of Funakoshi Shotokan Karate South Africa.

He progressed through his belt grading’s and attended many tournaments and championships including the yearly Regional and National Championships where he always obtained a medal for 1st, 2nd or 3rd for his age/belt division.

Although challenging at times, Brayden persevered to reaching his goal of Black Belt in 8yrs.

Brayden had his karate grading on 11 November 2017 where he obtained his Black Belt with I.F.F.S.K. (International Federation of Funakoshi Shotokan Karate South Africa) and he was awarded his certificate at a ceremony which was held on 9 December 2017.

He is considering continuing to obtain his Dans with a possibility of opening a Dojo in Bloemfontein where he will be studying this year.
